Invisible

Colored Pencil - 21" x 27"

The voices of many Colombian people and communities remain invisible and unheard in their country and in the United States. Though Colombian activists and social leaders are working to build peace from the ground up, their initiatives are often threatened by U.S.-backed policy in the region that supports militarization and big business over sustainable, people-based policies.

My goal in creating these paintings is to portray the strength and dignity of Colombian activists and community leaders, as well as their vulnerability as they work for social justice.

Through the power of art, I hope to initiate a dialogue with the viewer that will become a continued voice for human rights, make the invisible, visible and support the grassroots initiatives Colombian activists are working to implement.
